Eurylaime psittacin - Psarisomus dalhousiae
Long-tailed Broadbill

Eurylaime psittacin - Psarisomus dalhousiae

It has a large range in suitable habitat from the Himalayas of northeastern India east and south through Malaysia and to Sumatra and northern Borneo. Because there are so many breaks in their range they have diverged into a number of geographic variations, or subspecies, usually distinguished by small differences in the pattern of the head, but there is also quite a bit of individual variation, and they certainly are all enough alike as to be impossible to confuse with any other species. They make an odd, irregularly shaped nest that hangs down from a thin strand of vegetation, and is more or less globular (rounded) although some odd shapes can occur. There is a hole in the side and a wisp of vegetation hangs down from the bottom, like a tail. I’ve shown the nest in the background.
