Common species, living in rocky areas, coastal cliffs and urban habitats, from sea-level to 3,000 metres. It is endemic to Africa. It may be seen in flocks of several hundreds, with other pigeons and doves. Espèce commune qui vit dans les zones rocheuses, les falaises côtières et les zones urbaines, depuis le niveau de la mer jusqu'à 3000 mètres d'altitude. Il est endémique d'Afrique. On peut le trouver en groupes de plusieurs centaines d'oiseaux, avec d'autres pigeons et des tourterelles.
