Commentaire : A unique subspecies of Willow Ptarmigan which, unlike the continental nominate subspecies does not moult into a white winter plumage. These birds frequent Scottish heather moors where they range from sea-level (north-west coast to just under 900 metres in the central Highlands).Adults feed predominantly on young heather shoots.
