Urubu à tête rouge
When I was a kid Turkey Vultures were considered quite rare here in southern Ontario. Now they are abundant, and they are arriving earlier in the spring, leaving later in the fall.



We now know that the New World vultures and condors were incorrectly placed with the raptors, they are much more closely related to the storks.



They are mainly eaters of carrion, although they will relish some ripe pumpkin and possible the odd other food crop. They are widely distributed in North, Central and South America and the West Indies. Their feet are too weak to kill prey, but their beaks are very powerful (I know; I’ve been bitten by one!)
