Black-headed Heron adult
Common, this heron is not a water species, it prefers open veld, grasslands and fields. Seldom forages in water, but sometimes in marsh fringes. It feeds on rodents and large insects, frogs, fish and small birds.
Ce héron commun n'est pas une espèce aquatique, il préfère les steppes ouvertes, les zones herbeuses et les champs. Il se nourrit rarement dans l'eau, mais parfois au bord des marécages. Il se nourrit de rongeurs, grands insectes, grenouilles, poisson et petits oiseaux.
