Le Goéland pontique de premier hiver se reconnaît aisément à son plumage tricolore blanc gris brun. Remarquez aussi la tête trop petite, blanche et perlée d'un œil sombre. Le gonys est quasi absent, ce qui donne l'impression d'un bec plus long.
