Bearded Bellbird - Procnias averano

Araponga barbu

Bearded Bellbird male adult breeding
These birds call from favoured positions in the sub-canopy where light levels are rather low. Males are spaced out over areas of (usually sub-montane) primary rain forest in fixed territories advertised by their loud calls. The polygamous males spend most of their time calling the drab inconspicuous females rear the young alone.
