Martinet à collier roux - Cypseloides rutilus
Chestnut-collared Swift

Martinet à collier roux © Steve Garvie

Commentaire : An uncommon swift of humid montane primary forest & high quality secondary forest. It tends to feed at higher levels than many other swifts. The nest is built on a vertical face always in a damp shady place usually near water. The nest is made of mud, saliva & plant debris. In Trinidad these birds breed between may & august, two broods per season being common. Two eggs are usually laid. The photograph shows a male bird (females lack the chestnut collar) which was nesting above the entrance to Dunstan Cave in the grounds of the Asa Wright Nature Centre.
