Merlin - Falco columbarius

Faucon émerillon

Merlin
It shows an adult male (above and behind) an adult female (in front, wings spread), and three nestling Merlins (each a slightly different age as baby raptors hatch out on different days) at the nest. The Merlin is found around the northern hemisphere, nesting in northern and mountain forests and woodlands , and down through the central prairies (although the one that is found there is a distinctly paler race than the nominate race, that is the one I have painted, and the one native to eastern North America. They do migrate, and south of the tundra there are very few, if any, places in mainland North America, including northern Mexico, where you can't see Merlins at some time of year or the other.
