It swims very low, often with only head and neck above the surface. They nest in colonies with other species. They live in wet areas fringed with vegetation.

Nage en s'immergeant de telle façon que souvent, on ne voit que la tête et le cou à la surface. Niche en colonies avec d'autres espèces. Vit dans les marais et étangs bordés de végétation.
