It lives in suburban gardens, riverine bushveld and woodlands. It feeds on insects, fruit and worms, and frequents feeders. They nest in holes in trees which they excavate themselves. Usually found singly or in pairs.
Fréquente les jardins de banlieue proches des steppes herbacées et des régions boisées. Se nourrit d'insectes, de fruits et de vers, mais ne dédaigne pas les mangeoires. Creuse les troncs d'arbres pour y faire son nid. Se rencontre seul ou en couple.
