Espèce endémique de Colombie. L'espèce est en danger à cause de la perte de l'habitat, de la fragmentation des forêts et de la chasse pour la consommation de sa chair par les humains. Des projets pour la protection des oiseaux et de leur habitat, ainsi qu'une campagne éducative sont en cours.
