Black-crowned Night Heron adult
They live near lakes, marshes and rivers with dense fringe vegetation and cattails. They nest and roost in trees.
This heron is largely nocturnal, foraging from dusk to dawn. It feeds mainly on fish, but also earthworms, and aquatic and terrestrials insects.

Ils vivent près des lacs, des marécages et des cours d'eau bordés de végétation dense et de roseaux. Ils nichent et dorment dans les arbres. Ce héron est essentiellement nocturne, se nourrissant du crépuscule à l'aube. Il se nourrit surtout de poisson, mais aussi de vers de terre et d'insectes terrestres.
